🪞The Rec Room - Issue 04
You know when you ask ‘Anyone have a good recommendation for…?’ That’s what Mirour is. Featuring the library and an ATL pop up shop with incredible quality finds.
Wait… what is this?
Welcome to The Rec Room, a newsletter from Mirour - a social discovery tool where you can ask for recs, share your favorite things, and get more context on what you’re buying from people who have been there and done that.
🌱 What We’re Seeing
Real community doesn’t just happen naturally, you have to make it.
This short but powerful read from The Social Creatures broke down how community used to be a default… and now it’s something we have to actively build. “Loneliness is no longer an individual problem. It’s a systems issue.” A must-read if you’ve been feeling the shift. We’re seeing people across platforms sharing how they are actively taking the time to curate community in their personal lives, and not use as a buzzword.
🌐 3 Cool Things We Found This Week
👕 Cooke’s
After moving to Atlanta during the pandemic, Cookes started from the sanctuary feeling of an online buy-sell-trade space for moms - rooted in a love of clothing and connection. That spirit just became physical with their first pop-up: a space to feel inspired, meet kindred spirits, and run your fingers across real fabric. Pieces are pulled and displayed by the founder for purchase (and her finds are incredible…) → @shopcookes (IG)
📚 Libraries as Third Spaces
Found via TikTok — someone shared how libraries are one of the last remaining free third spaces. No expectation to spend. No agenda. Just space to think, explore, and connect. Honestly? A reminder we needed.
🏃🏼♀️➡️. Recess
I didn’t realize that camp booking was a thing until my social feed (mostly on Linkedin) blew up with working parents having a nightmare of camp booking. We’re seeing a lot of new platforms in this space rising (Recess (ATX) another one Camply (ATL) - big market to tackle and excited they’ll be around and selfishly more established when we need them.
👋 Rec Room Spotlight: Danielle
Each issue, we highlight someone from the Mirour community - who they are, what they’re into, and the kinds of recs they swear by. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being a real person with real opinions.
Meet Danielle - strategic thinker, chaos tamer, and icon in the making.
Whether she’s building better culture through her consulting business or mentoring others through messy seasons, she brings big-heart energy to everything she does. When in doubt? She handles stress one “Add to Cart” at a time.
What’s something you’ve discovered lately that lives rent-free in your head?
Dakota Johnson’s style - specifically, the divine power of a black leather trench coat. It’s less of a jacket, more of a personality trait I’m now committed to finding… one thrift store at a time.
What’s under $100 but absolutely priceless in your life?
Obagi Clenziderm moisturizer and face wash - my face’s ride-or-die for the past 3 years. Clear skin, clear mind.
What’s your go-to life upgrade - the thing you’d shout from the rooftops if you could?
Surround yourself with people who love you. Free, effective, and surprisingly underrated - 10/10 life hack.
Which brand are you basically an unpaid influencer for — and why?
Othos is a Charleston-based body care brand that’s criminally underrated. Their scents are next-level.
What’s your ultimate “treat yourself” moment right now?
After a hectic first half of the year, my dream treat yourself purchase is a guilt-free escape where my only job is doing absolutely nothing - and honestly, I’m ready to clock in (with my husband and our furbaby, Mowgli - of course!).
Who’s your inner-circle rec whisperer — and what’s their superpower?
Lexi McDonald is my style go-to, even though our tastes are worlds apart, she’s always ahead on trends, knows how to say ‘ew’ without offense, and somehow supports my worst shopping sprees like a true friend.
What are you trying to hunt down or solve right now? Let’s crowdsource it.
I have been on the hunt for a dainty 14k gold necklace engraved with my furbaby’s face. One that is delicate and timeless, with a pendant that stays put, no fill-in engraving, and tough enough to keep up with my day-to-day.
🔍 Real Question We Heard This Week
“What’s the perfect work bag? I’m looking for a bag I can carry around Central London- something that fits my laptop, works for client meetings, and still feels polished. Not a backpack. Chic, lightweight, and functional. Good quality- I’m happy to invest in something that lasts.”
Top recs came through were:
A little pricey, but the Dagne Dover Allyn Leather Tote is amazing!
Coach brooklyn shoulder bag 39 for this! So chic and fits so much in. Also the strap is durable so I don't worry about having a heavy laptop in it.
If you truly want to invest in something, Métier’s Vérité All Day handbag is my favorite. Super stylish, extremely well-made and fits everything. (Also, it was designed by a woman and they have a store in Mayfair!) It looks like they don’t currently have the black leather in stock, but it will for sure come back.
I love my bottega totes! I have a medium arco tote as well as the medium andiamo tote with smooth leather!
Carv bags are handmade in the uk. I have two of the handbags and love them. This tote might fit your brief and she also makes custom bags
